Green
economy

True: "The green economy employs millions of workers."

Source: The International Renewable Energy Agency, Renewable Energy and Jobs Review 2024

The International Renewable Energy Agency’s “Renewable Energy and Jobs" report states that 16.2 million people work in the renewable energy industry globally, with an extra 2.5 million finding work in 2023 alone.

Estimates vary for the UK, but the “Low Carbon Environmental Goods and Services" report also states that more than 1.2 million people were employed in the green economy in 2021.

True: "The green economy is the biggest economic opportunity of the 21st century."

Source: Confederation of British Industry, The economic opportunities brought by the UK’s net zero economy

The Confederation of British Industry’s “The Future is Green” report states that the net zero economy added £83.1 billion to the UK economy in Gross Value Added (GVA) between 2023 and 2024 (page 6), and grew by 10.1% between 2023 and 2024, significantly outpacing the wider UK economy (page 6).

True: "More people are employed in the green economy than in the fossil fuel industry."

Source: The International Energy Agency, World Energy Employment 2024

The International Energy Agency’s "International Energy Employment 2024" report states that, including renewables, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and grid modernisation, 34.8 million people across the world are employed in clean energy alone, compared with 32.6 million in fossil fuels. This shift is set to continue, with growth predicted in clean energy jobs but a decline in jobs in the coal, oil, and gas supply sectors. (Page 11).

True: "Unless we halt the decline in nature, it will cost us the same as three Brexits"

Source: University of Oxford, Nature degradation could cause a 12% loss to UK GDP

The "Nature degradation could cause a 12% loss to UK GDP" analysis found that damage to the natural environment is slowing the UK economy, and could lead to an estimated 12% reduction in GDP in the years ahead. While the UK’s independent fiscal watchdog estimated that Brexit would cause a long-term 4% reduction in GDP.

Energy

Not true: "We have to have fossil fuels as backup when the wind doesn’t blow"

Source: Modo Energy, GB battery energy storage research roundup

When Nigel Farage interviewed Dale on GB News he claimed "We have to have fossil fuels as backup when the wind doesn’t blow".

By the end of 2024, Modo Energy found that the UK already had nearly 5 GW of operational utility-scale battery capacity. By 2030, RystadEnergy forecasts that capacity will exceed 24 GW.

Added to other means of storing renewable energy, like pumped hydro projects, and making our energy usage more efficient with insulation and switching to a smart grid, the growth in battery storage capacity means we will not need to rely on fossil fuels as backup in the near future.

Not true: "We can’t afford to switch to renewables."

Source: S&P Global Market Intelligence, Private equity flows to UK renewables surpass investment in US

The UK can transition to 100% renewable energy without public money. According to S&P Global Market Intelligence, renewable energy companies based in the UK secured $7.96 billion in private equity investment in 2024, surpassing the combined total of the previous four years.

Power Purchase Agreements give long-term revenue certainty for developers, green bonds raise capital specifically for clean projects, and venture capital and private equity fund both startups and large-scale infrastructure. Many companies also directly invest in renewables to cut costs and improve efficiency.

True: "The North sea only has 7% of its original capacity left of oil."

Source: The North Transition Authority, UK Oil and Gas Reserves and Resources

The North Transition Authority states that, by 2023, the UK had produced 47.3 billion barrels of oil in the North Sea. Now there are only 3.3 billion barrels that have been proven to exist. (Page 4).

Not true: "We don’t have enough land to supply 100% of our electricity with renewables."

Source: University of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, Britain’s energy demand could be met entirely by wind and solar – both practically and economically

Oxford University's policy brief estimates that offshore wind alone could meet 140% of total energy demand in 2050.

Add onshore wind and solar farms that share space with agriculture, plus rooftop solar that uses no land, and with 1% of our land we could generate all the electricity we require independently. (Page 2).

True: "The fossil fuel industry gets £18bn in government subsidies every year."

Source: Global Justice Now, UK Government subsidises fossil fuels by £17.5 billion every year, new research reveals

Global Justice Now’s "Fossil fuel subsidies in the UK: Who pays, who profits?" report states that the UK government currently provides an estimated £17.5 billion in fossil fuel subsidies and support per year. In 2023, subsidies and support hit £26.7 billion. (Page 1 and 3).

True: "We could get 13% of all our energy needs if we put solar panels on every suitable house in the UK."

Source: Green Britain Foundation / Absolar, The Rooftop Revolution report

The Rooftop Revolution report found that over 65% of UK homes are suitable for solar panels, and installing them would enable us to generate 13% of the entire UK’s energy needs. (Page 2)

True: "There is enough grassland to heat all of Britain’s homes."

Source: Green Britain Foundation / Imperial College London, The "Green Gas" report

The "Green Gas" report found that, without using agricultural land, there are 6.46 million hectares of grassland on which plants can be grown to make green gas, making up to 236.5 TWh of low carbon energy — enough to heat 98.8% of British homes if they are made efficient. (Page 9)

True: Global gas sets the price of UK energy

Source: Green Britain Foundation / Carbon Jacked, Breaking the Link

Our energy bills are too high and part of the reason for that is the global pricing of oil and gas, which then feeds through to our electricity price because we allow the price of electricity from gas to set the price of electricity from the wind. There are billions and billions of pounds wasted in our energy system through our energy bills from this link.

True: Contracts for Difference guarantee payments to green energy

Source: Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Contracts for Difference

A Contract for Difference is the green energy scheme in which the government agrees a fixed price, a strike price for energy produced by renewable energy projects. If it goes below that price, the government tops it up for the companies. If the electricity goes above it, the companies pay the excess back to the government and hopefully cut bills as a result.

Not true: A CfD for the North Sea would be a subsidy

Source: Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Contracts for Difference

Contracts for Difference (CfD) provide certainty to a sector and ensure fair pricing. CfDs are administered by a private company owned by the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. A North Sea oil CfD would cut consumer bills by 5 billion pounds a year and it would benefit the whole country to do this.

True: "We have enough wind and sun to power the UK ten times over"

Source: University of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, Could Britain’s energy demand be met entirely by wind and solar?

University of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise & Environment "conservatively estimated, potential generation from solar and wind (2,896 TWh) is almost double the maximum estimated final energy consumption of Great Britain in 2050 (1,500 TWh), and almost ten times current electricity needs (299 TWh/year)".

In addition:

Oxford University’s policy brief also found that, based on conservative estimates covering just 7% of land in Great Britain, the combined potential for wind and solar electricity generation is almost ten times the country’s current electricity needs, and almost double our maximum estimated final energy consumption in 2050. (Page 3).

Farming and
food

True: The farming Industry gets £4.4bn worth of subsidies every year

Source: Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, Agricultural support payments

The government states that total payments and support to the Agricultural Industry increased by 3.4% to £4.4 billion.

True: If we go plant-based, it will free up 70% of farmland, and that’s 50% of land in the UK

Source: World Wildlife Fund, WWF Future of feed

Including land used abroad (850,000 hectares), WWF found that 85% of the UK’s total agricultural land footprint is dedicated to grazing and growing feed for animals (page 6).

Using Defra’s land-use data, this equates to approximately 13.6 million hectares of land within the UK used for animal agriculture. That’s around 56% of the UK’s total land area.

Politics and campaigning

True: Dale doesn’t support Hamas he supports the Palestinian people

Source: BBC News, Green energy boss settles High Court libel case

Dale has won multiple legal cases over false claims that he supported Hamas. In 2025, the Guido Fawkes blog was ordered to pay £9,995 in damages, and other outlets like the Daily Mail and GB News issued apologies and settlements, as the BBC reported.

Vince has consistently stated his support is for Palestinian civilians, not Hamas, and has condemned the October 7 attacks as an "atrocity."
