Wholesale market reform
Britain’s energy market is broken. Here’s how wholesale price controls, North Sea reform and breaking the gas link could cut bills for good.
Report releasedSeptember 09, 2026
View ReportWe need to finish what the Tories started - they introduced price controls in the retail energy market seven years ago.
It was half a job, resulted in the bankruptcy of half the market (30 companies) - because it was so half arsed. How can we hope to control retail energy prices (our energy bills) if we don’t control wholesale energy prices. It makes no sense - in any market.
We make the case for reform of the wholesale energy market in this paper - the case for price controls across all generation and our North Sea oil and gas production. The impact on our bills and on our whole economy will be profound - if we do this.
We can insulate ourselves from the global fossil fuel price rollercoaster, bring our bills down to a bare minimum - and keep them there.
Take back control of our energy bills, finish what the Tories started - nothing not to like..:)
